Spring Boating Course
Our next CPS Boating Course will be starting January 3, 2012 and continuing
to the mid April 2012. Classes are held every Tuesday night. Venue: Mark
Isfield School 1900 - 2130hrs. Presently, the cost is $255, which includes
all the books and materials required, or $430 per couple (if they wish
to share books). All the instructors are volunteers. The course covers
basic navigation (all classroom training... practical, weather permitting),
collision regulations, aids to navigation and much more. There will be
an examination at the end which will include using charts and plotting
courses. Please be advised that, besides the two hour classes each week,
there is homework. Some weeks, it is just a matter of reading a chapter
or two. During the four weeks of navigation and chart training, it can
be considerably more...depending on each students experience with charts
or maps and using a compass and bearings.
You will also receive the PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card )...now required
by the Canadian Coast Guard to operate a vessel under 4 metres. For more
information go to PCOC
